Guided Surf Coast Walk

new dates to be confirmed

  • Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the next likely date for the walk will be in 2021.

The Great Ocean Road Coast Committee and Traditional Owners the Wadawurrung have partnered to provide a unique coastal experience – the Guided Surf Coast Walk.

In the only tour of its kind – Corrina Eccles, a Wadawurrung woman, leads participants on a three-day guided walk from Point Impossible to Aireys Inlet, sharing cultural knowledge and stories of Wadawurrung Country and the Aboriginal heritage along the Surf Coast.

Corrina walks her life as a cultural journey of her spiritual connection to ancestors, stories and cultural passion, helping non-Aboriginal people to understand, preserve and interpret cultural heritage.

Participants are also joined by Ranger Peter Crowcroft from our education team who shares his knowledge of our coastal environment – home to animals and plants that don’t live anywhere else on earth.

The Guided Surf Coast Walk is an innovative tour that embraces cultural values, stories and coastal experiences.

We are very proud to be a finalist in Reconciliation Victoria’s 2020 HART (Helping Achieve Reconciliation Together) Awards for our walk.

Itinerary:

Day 1

Check into the Torquay Foreshore Caravan Park mid-morning where you will have the opportunity to explore the local area and take in some sights. Around midday, you will be transported to Point Impossible where you will experience a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony with local Wadawurrung Traditional Owner Corrina Eccles. Ranger Pete will then share his knowledge as you walk back to Torquay Foreshore Caravan Park.

Spend the evening with new friends at a Meet and Greet including drinks and canapes, at the caravan park from 5-6pm. A discount voucher for a local restaurant will be provided should you wish to go there for dinner.

Track: Today is an easy paved walk. Approx 8km.

Day 2

Kick start the day with continental breakfast included in your cabin, and free coffee vouchers for Third Wave Kiosk (located just outside the park). The walk will commence in the morning and you will be provided with a packed lunch and snacks for along the way. Corrina will take you to many interesting points along the way sharing the local history and ways of living on Wadawurrung Country. Spot some birds, discover what washes ashore if you look closely among the seaweed and sand, or observe some native animals with Ranger Pete. You will arrive at Anglesea Family Caravan Park late afternoon where you will stay overnight.

Enjoy some time in the heated spa and rest your weary legs. Dinner tonight is provided at a well known and loved local eatery.

Track: Today the walk is undulating, with a mix of beach walking and gravel track. Approximately 22 kilometres.

Day 3

Today we will be walking from Anglesea to Aireys Inlet with Ranger Pete. Your complimentary continental breakfast and coffee are included again, and after breakfast, we will hit the trail. After experiencing the beautiful scenery along the way you will arrive in Aireys Inlet and the end of the walk and also Wadawurrung Country.

Take a tour of Split Point Lighthouse (famous from the Round The Twist TV series) with your ticket included, and finally finish off with Devonshire Tea and scones at Willow’s Tea House.
